Cybersecurity is the main priority for investment in the digital sector in Italy, partly due to the push of the NRPP and the leadership of the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN). Nevertheless, the ratio of cybersecurity spending to GDP is 0.10%, still far behind other G7 countries.
The 67% of enterprises in Italy note an increase in attack attempts and the 61% have increased their cybersecurity budgets. The 53% of enterprises have a formalized Chief Information Security Officer. In the 80% of enterprises there are structured training plans on attack risks. But only one-third of enterprises have methodologies for financial quantification of cyber risk.
Cyber attacks are steadily increasing, with 1,141 serious incidents detected by Clusit (Italian Association for Computer Security) in the first half of 2022 alone, up 8.4% from the same period in 2021, and threats are also increasingly affecting critical infrastructure.
Overall in 2022, the Italian cybersecurity market is worth €1.86 billion, with an exceptional acceleration of +18% compared to 2021.
